Katie decided to take the opportunity to fly home to visit Mom and Dad (and the rest of the family). Joey and I decided it would be nice if Koa and I could surprise everyone as well since Brian, Ashley, and Oakley were going to be visiting that same weekend. Joey had to work, so it was hard to leave him behind, but being the great husband/daddy that he is, he encouraged us to go. Katie met Mom and Ashley first. Koa and I came out soon after. Mom almost threw Katie's laptop that she was holding and Ashley (sorry, Ashley) immediately teared up. I would say we definitely surprised them! It was so much fun to watch the cousins interact with one another as this was the first time that Koa was old enough to pay attention to Oakley. They even slept in their pack'n plays in the same bedroom!
Pool Day
Koa finally got his own pool float with built in shade! He loved it!
Joey's Work
Joey went to the training division for two weeks. He had to be at work at 4:30 in the morning and worked until 2:00 in the afternoon. The people going through training to become deputies have to complete a two week "boot camp." Joey was one of the "drill sergeants" who was in their faces and working them out. I think he enjoyed the change, but isn't a fan of working 5 days in a row--especially those hours!
Koa Eats Rice Cereal
Koa had his "4 month" checkup when he was about 4 and a half months old. He is a healthy boy weighing in at 14 lb 3 oz and measuring 25 inches long. He didn't even cry when he got his two shots. I think Nurse Julie was just as shocked as we were! Koa was probably distracted as he was thinking about the fact that Doctor Minnick gave him the go ahead on rice cereal! Here are his pictures and videos from this big event:
Softball Tournament
We continue to enjoy spending the day at the softball park cheering Joey and the guys on to victories! This particular tournament lasted 14 hours and they came in 2nd in the end. Koa, Katie, and I were there bright and early for the first three games before we took a break at the pool. Joey let us know they were still going strong so we decided to head back out and cheer them on some more. It was an exciting day and Koa enjoyed every second of it!
September Play Date
We had our friends from our baby classes over to our house for some football and a cookout. It is so much fun to see how they are all growing so fast! Gaine and Britton have definitely passed Koa up on the growth charts! Layla was wearing her Buckeye Princess dress...so cute! Koa and Gaine were twins in their FSU shirts!
Naia the Playmat
We let Koa play with Naia and he loved it. Naia was so gentle with him and Koa likes the way her fur feels. They are going to be best friends!
Concert at the Pier
One of our friends, Vanessa, just had a baby a month ago. She invited us to hang out at the St. Pete Pier and listen to a free concert. What an experience! The music was Celtic--but sounded like kareoke. The homeless guys were dancing and enjoying the music with their BABY PET SQUIRREL. Yes, I said BABY PET SQUIRREL. It had a flourescent green collar and was holding on to their shirts for dear life as they "danced" around in front of the band. Quite entertaining! Unfortunately, I put the camera away before Wendy, Vanessa, and her baby Mila arrived!
Day Off
One of the perks of job sharing is that Deb and I have it worked out that we take turns working on the early release days. This means we get a Wednesday off every once in a while. For my first day off, Katie, Koa and I spent the day with Amy and her boys. Here's what Koa did:

Love the updates! Koa is getting soo big and is such a cutie! Thanks for taking the time to see Drew, Jenna, Grant, and me while you were here over Labor Day. I'm looking forward to having all the "little ones" together at Thanksgiving. It's going to be interesting with 6 kids/babies around, but lots of fun I'm sure.
