Grandpa & Grandma Shafer Visit
We had an exciting rest of January! Grandpa and Grandma Shafer came down to
visit. Grandpa Shafer went to Haiti with members of their church for a mission
trip while they were here. He had an amazing experience, has lots of pictures
to share, and is looking forward to the next trip! While they were here, we
were able to give our guest bathroom a makeover and paint the nursery. I'm so
glad my parents have so much painting experience--it's basically like hiring
professional painters!
Before we got to work on the house, we took them to the beach! Koa and Dada
wore their matching board shorts they got for Christmas from Grandpa and
Grandma Kaleikini. Those will be a favorite!
Grandma Shafer taught Koa how to build “towers” with his blocks.
Pink/Blue Date
Joey and I wanted to make finding out if we have a boy or girl a special
event. So, when we had the ultrasound, we asked the tech to write it down
instead of telling us. She did a good job of letting us see our baby’s face,
feet, etc and then telling us when to look away when she was determining the
sex. We left the doctor’s office with an envelope containing the telltale
picture and a piece of paper with either “girl” or “boy” written on it and
stapled shut. We headed straight over to the bakery where we handed over the
paper and they filled a cupcake with the appropriate color icing. On our way to
Timpano’s, our favorite restaurant for special occasions, we picked up the
cupcake. We were so excited to cut into the cupcake BEFORE dinner (there’s no
way we could wait any longer)! Here is what we saw:
 |
| Yay! It's a girl!!! |
We are so excited to be blessed with both a boy and a girl! It's also pretty exciting that two of our good friends who have kids Koa's age are also pregnant with girls and due around the same time we are!
Now that we know we are having a little girl, it was time to start transforming the guest room into our little girl's nursery!
 |
| Koa helped Dada take the bed apart...notice the color of the guest room walls! |
 |
| Bathroom makeover: new wall color and mirror! |
 |
| Fabric that will become the nursery decor! |
 |
| Yay! Hazy Sage walls (thanks, mom and dad) and the curtains and changing pad cover mom and I made. |
 |
| Thanks, mom, for all of your expertise (and thanks, Grandma, for teaching mom how to sew)!! |
 |
| Here are the "blue prints" for the curtains, changing pad cover, bed skirt, and comforter (this is what happens when you don't have a pattern)! |
Crib No More
Koa thinks it's fun to play with his water on the floor...Mommy doesn't think it's fun to clean up. So, spitting water on the floor is a timeoutable offense. Well, timeout as been in his crib. I put him in timeout and went to get a towel to clean up his mess. He met me in the hallway and promptly said "Thank you." I was quite shocked to see him standing there as I realized he had just climbed out of his crib. I put him back in and told him to show Mommy how he did it. Let's just say he didn't have a problem getting to the top of his crib and then teetered precariously while I about had a heart attack. Of course, Joey wasn't home, so I decided before I put Koa down for bed, I had to mak his crib a toddler bed. Koa was so excited to get in and out of his bed all by himself!
 |
| So proud of himself! |
 |
| My big boy who slept all night in his big boy bed, asked to go potty on the froggy potty, and now wants to swing on big boy swings! |
 |
| Well, we still like this swing, too! |
 |
| The new timeout stool...and it works! :) |
 |
| I can't believe he is sleeping in a toddler bed now! |
 |
| After making his sister's drapes blackout drapes, I decided I needed to make some for Koa as well! We are going to have some solid naptimes in this house! |
As you can see, I am practically addicted to my sewing machine now! Koa's naptimes and after he goes to bed have been devoted to making things for the nursery and all of the upcoming baby showers instead of keeping the blog up to date! :) I can'te believe we are halfway through February already--I will have quite a few pictures to add in the next week or so to bring us up to date!
